Colic is a condition that generally appears when a baby is 3 – 6 weeks old and usually resolves after they are 3 months old.

Symptoms of colic include:

  • Excessive crying
  • Drawing in arms and legs (like they are in pain)
  • Turning bright red
  • Needing more attending
  • Being sensitive to the world around them

Birth is traumatic and puts a lot of stress on the spine and nervous system. Its suspected that this contributes to colic. Chiropractic adjustments have shown to be helpful in treating colic.

It’s also important for a breast feeding mother to evaluate her diet to ensure she is not including foods that irritate the baby. This generally includes: dairy, spicy food, alcohol, and tobacco.

Helpful tips for treating colic include:

  • Regular chiropractic care
  • A warm bottle
  • Rocking the baby
  • Avoiding dairy or soy based formulas
  • Giving smaller feedings
